Resident Reports Stolen Dog Mistreated
A Leoma man filed a complaint with law enforcement officers during the weekend, saying that his ex-girlfriend had stolen his dogs, but failed to care for them.
The victim reported he had stayed at a friend’s home for a couple of weeks in the wake of a domestic altercation between him and his girlfriend. He told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Saturday that she had moved out in his absence. She reportedly took personal belongings as well as the complainant’s white/red nose pit bull dog and two blue/red nose puppies.
The complainant told deputies that he had received a telephone call the previous day from his ex-girlfriend’s sister. She told him that she had found his adult dog chained behind her wood pile.
She said that the dog had only been there for two days and that she was uncertain how it had gotten there. Reports show that the dog was severely emaciated and that her neck was rubbed raw from the chain.
The victim also reported that he had located on Facebook where the puppies had been posted for sale. He said that he had contacted the individuals who had purchased one of the pups, and that they had agreed to return it.
The second pup, he said, had been given to a friend of his ex-girlfriend. He told deputies that the friend denied having been given the puppy.
Investigation into the matter is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
